Swing Dance Instructors Are Coming In June!

June 15th and 16th we are thrilled to host Mikey and Eve Brafford. These two will be coming again later in the year for the Bix Event, so they are going to spend a weekend with us getting us excited for their teaching style and prepping for Bix.

They will be available all weekend for private lessons.

Friday: Go out dancing (to be announced)

Saturday:

5:00 Swing I

6:00 Swing II

7:00 Normal Third Saturday Dance w/ DJ Amy

$8 for 1 event OR $15 for 2 events OR $20 for all three events

QC SoDa is having their Summer Dance. It will be even bigger and better than last year. Here are some of the things to look forward to:

Air Conditioning! We’ll still sweat, but we’ll have to work at it.

Live Music! A first for QC SoDa, and man can those kids play!

DJ Amy! Playing during the band breaks and afterwards all your favorites.

Lesson Discounts! Pop a ballroom balloon and get a discount.

The party will start at 6:00 and will run until 10:00. Come get in from the heat a little bit and help us make this the best summer dance yet!

It’s that time of year again. Free music outside, lots of different venues, sometimes lessons, and as always: boucoup dancing. There are concerts for The Levee, Vander Veer, Bill Bowe, Lincoln, Schwiebert, River House, MAC, Wiman, The Quarter, and RME. Check out the calendar for all the details.

With all the free concerts in the parks, some of our instructors go out and dance in the field during the summer. Here are the classes continuing through the summer:

Mondays:

9th Annual Quad Cities Spectacular Showcase!!!

Greg Marquis will be hosting this year’s showcase at Skellington Manor.

The event includes the show, dinner, and dancing afterwards.

Festivities begin at 2:00 on Sunday April 29th, and run until 8:00.

Full event tickets and show-only tickets are available.

Dinner is catered by Bridges Catering of Princeton, IA, and includes: Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast, Baked Orange Roughy Champagne, Broccoli, Carrots, Pea Pods, and Mushrooms, Rosemary Potatoes, Dinner Rolls, Caesar Salad, Rotini Pasta Salad, Fresh Fruit Medley, Fresh Broccoli Salad, Coffee and Iced Tea, and Cake.

David and Georgene Rinden will be back as emcee and hostess. Zaker Video Productions will be professionally filming the event and DVD purchases will be available for $30. The showcase will feature couples and formation teams in all styles of dancing. This event is organized by Greg Marquis of the Dance Workshop located in the QC SoDa studio in Moline.

New this year is two different tickets available! Full event tickets are $44. Tickets for the afternoon showcase only are $22. All tickets must be purchased in advance so that our catering and seating are accurate.

We hope that you will be able to join us for the 9th Annual Quad Cities Spectacular Showcase on Sunday April 29th at our new location – the Skellington Manor at 420 18th St. in Rock Island, IL. You will love this beautiful, large new facility! The afternoon will begin at 2:00 with showcase performances featuring dancers from numerous studios and open party dancing. If you like “Dancing With The Stars” you’ll love this event!

Spring Dance is Almost Here!!

April 27th (Friday) 6:00-10:00

For the last two years this has been QC SoDa’s largest event. This year we’ve added an hour of performances before the dance starts, giveaways, and great deals.

6:00-7:00 Recital

7:00-10:00 Dance

Reasons to come:

The Recital: See students from Hampton Middle School, Glenview Middle School, and Primary Academy dance an Indian Folk Dance, as well as cajun, peagentine, chacha, and many more. Come support your favorite students and staff!

The Dance: DJ Amy will be playing your favorite dance music from 7-10. Also, if the front room gets full we’ll have music going in the back room as well. We can take your requests for ballroom, swing, country, etc.

Giveaways: There will be a raffle for prizes like DVD’s, T-Shirts, Lessons, and even tickets to the Dance The Bix 2012 workshop weekend in August! Raffle tickets are $1 or 25 for $20.

Promos: Private lessons with Gunter will be on sale this day only (admission to dance not required). 6 private lessons for sale at $210 ($35 each). Limit one set of 6 lessons per person.

Be Social and Save: Cost is $10 for general admission. Check in on Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, LinkedIn, Meetup, or any other social network site and recieve $2 off. Punchcards welcome. Students get in for $4.

Calling all Waltzers

We’re going to be doing another flash mob, and this time it’s the Red Carpet re-opening of the Titanic Movie in 3D. We’ll be dancing waltz to My Heart Will Go On. Please come and waltz with us. Plan to be there around 5:00, and we’ll be dancing 2 or three times before 6:15. Not a choreography, any of your waltz moves are awesome (even if its just a box). Hope to see you at the 53rd Cinemas on Friday April 6th!
